Who can apply
Anyone habitually resident in Ireland who is experiencing financial hardship. You do not need to be receiving a social welfare payment. The Community Welfare Officer (CWO) considers:
- Your weekly income from all sources
- Your savings and assets
- The nature and urgency of the expense
- Whether you have already tried other options
Immigrants on work permits, student visas or other permissions can apply — there is no immigration status requirement as long as you are habitually resident in Ireland.
How to apply
Contact the Community Welfare Officer (CWO) at your local Intreo Centre. You can:
- Walk in to your local Intreo Centre and ask for the CWO
- Call the CWO line: 0818 607 080
- Send a written request with supporting documents
Bring: proof of identity, proof of address, bank statements (3 months), proof of income, and any invoice, quote or letter related to the expense you need help with.
Urgent cases — such as a family with no heating or food — can be decided on the same day.
