Editorial Policy
How we create, review, verify and correct content on IrishBenefits.ie.

Contents
1. Editorial purpose
IrishBenefits.ie is an independent information website. Our editorial purpose is to provide accurate, current and accessible information about Irish social welfare payments, benefits and entitlements. All content is written for a general audience — including people with little or no prior knowledge of the Irish welfare system.
We do not publish opinion, advocacy or lobbying content. Every article on IrishBenefits.ie describes factual information about how a specific payment or scheme works, who is eligible, how much it pays and how to apply.
2. Sources and references
All content is based exclusively on official Irish government and statutory sources. Our source hierarchy, in order of authority:
- Primary legislation — Acts of the Oireachtas, including the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 (as amended), published at oireachtas.ie
- Department of Social Protection — official payment rates, eligibility criteria and application procedures published at gov.ie
- Revenue Commissioners — PRSI rules, tax credit rates and income thresholds at revenue.ie
- Citizens Information Board — official explanatory guides at citizensinformation.ie
- Annual Budget documentation — Budget Day Summary and DSP Estimates published by the Department of Finance
We do not use third-party blogs, forums, social media posts or unofficial secondary sources as references for payment rates or eligibility rules.
3. How content is created
Each guide on IrishBenefits.ie follows a consistent process:
- Research — the relevant official sources are identified and reviewed for the current payment rate, eligibility conditions and application process.
- Drafting — content is written in plain English, avoiding jargon. Complex eligibility rules are broken down into clear, readable criteria.
- Rate verification — all payment rates are cross-referenced against the most recent official DSP or Revenue schedule before publication.
- Internal review — content is reviewed for accuracy, tone and completeness before going live.
- Publication with date — every page displays the date it was last reviewed.
4. Review and update schedule
Irish social welfare rates and eligibility rules change regularly, primarily following the annual Budget. Our review schedule:
- Annual Budget review (October/November) — following each Budget announcement, all payment rate pages are updated to reflect the rates taking effect from January of the following year.
- Mid-year legislative changes — when the Department of Social Protection announces significant rule changes between Budgets, the relevant guides are updated immediately.
- Quarterly spot-checks — a random selection of guides is reviewed each quarter to confirm rates and rules are still current.
- Reader-reported errors — confirmed errors are corrected within 48 hours of verification.
The "Last updated" date displayed on each page reflects the most recent editorial review of that specific page, not the publication date.
5. Corrections policy
Accuracy is our highest editorial priority. When an error is identified — by our team or a reader — we follow this process:
- Verification — we verify the reported error against official government sources before making any change.
- Correction — if the error is confirmed, we correct the page within 48 hours and update the "Last updated" date.
- Material errors — if an error could have materially misled a reader about their entitlements (e.g., incorrect payment rate or eligibility rule), we add a brief note at the top of the page explaining what was corrected and when.
- Minor errors — typographical errors, formatting issues and minor factual inaccuracies are corrected without a public notice.
To report an error, email irishbenefits@gmail.com with the page URL, the error and the correct information (with a link to the official source if possible). We aim to respond to all error reports within 5 working days.
6. Scope and limitations
IrishBenefits.ie provides general information only. We do not:
- Provide personal advice on individual benefit claims, appeals or entitlements
- Assess individual eligibility for any payment
- Provide legal, financial, tax or immigration advice
- Represent or act on behalf of readers in dealings with the Department of Social Protection
Despite our best efforts to keep information current, Irish welfare rules change frequently. We strongly recommend verifying all rates and eligibility conditions at gov.ie or citizensinformation.ie before making any decisions based on the information you read here.
7. Editorial independence
IrishBenefits.ie is funded by advertising revenue from Google AdSense. Advertising does not influence our editorial content in any way. Advertisers have no access to or influence over which topics we cover, how we present information or what we recommend.
We are not affiliated with any political party, advocacy group, law firm, accounting firm or financial services company. We do not accept sponsored content, paid insertions or advertorial of any kind.
