Frequently asked questions
My spouse is under 66 — do we still qualify?
Only one resident needs to be aged 66 or over. If you or your spouse/partner living in the property is 66+, the household qualifies. The income assessment covers the full household income.
Can I apply as a tenant aged 66+?
Yes, if you have the landlord's written consent for the works. Private rental tenants and local authority tenants can apply. Local authority tenants may find the council deals with repairs directly rather than through this grant.
What proof of income is required?
Typically: most recent payslip or pension statement; P60 or Form 12 from Revenue; social welfare payment evidence. Income from all household members is assessed. Revenue's myAccount can generate an income summary letter.
Does the grant cover the full cost of repairs?
At lower incomes, the grant covers up to 95% of approved costs up to €8,000. You fund the remainder yourself. If your contractor quotes exceed the grant cap, you cover the difference.
How long does the application process take?
Times vary by local authority and volume of applications. Typically 8–16 weeks from a complete application to a decision. Works can only begin after written approval — starting early will disqualify you from the grant.
Can I get this grant for a property abroad (holiday home)?
No. The property must be your principal private residence in Ireland. Holiday homes, investment properties, or homes abroad do not qualify.
